August 17, the United Church of Canada confirmed its commitments in partnership with the global ACT Alliance, to follow up on our initial $65,000 already sent to our partners on the ground, and an additional $75,000 already contributed through our membership in the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The members of the congregation of Thornhill United Church designate a portion of their givings to be assigned to Mission and Service of the United Church of Canada.
Using the UCC New Creed as headings, the following is a partial list of how thedonations were used.
- Called to be the Church: M&S supports Theological schools and ministry training.
- Love and Serve Others: M&S supports emergency relief in response to disasters; supports chaplaincy for prisons and hospitals, supports work with other Christian churches on matters of justice, peace and human dignity.
- Live with Respect in Creation: M&S supports environmental stewardship, work for right relationships with the earth, and development of respect for all peoples.
- Seek Justice and Resist Evil: M&S supports the United Church’s response to globalization-Challenging the Empire, advocacy for justice, and addressing causes of conflict.
The needs are large and your contributions always help the larger world community.
